Dysport®
Years of repetitive expressions such as laughing and squinting, as well as damage from sun exposure, can cause the skin around the eyes and forehead to develop deep lines and wrinkles. These lines are known as dynamic lines or expression lines. Now, by utilizing Dysport®, a muscle relaxing agent, expression lines can be reduced. Dysport® is a FDA-approved treatment for the temporary reduction of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in patients 18 to 65 years of age.

Dysport® targets nerves that are connected to muscle, blocking the chemical communication between the nerves and the muscle. Once the nerve signals are blocked, the muscles can’t contract and no wrinkling or banding can occur. The result is that the overlying skin appears smooth and crease-free. During treatment, Dysport® is injected with a very fine needle into the specific muscle.
Dysport® can be used on horizontal forehead lines, glabellar frown lines (vertical line between the eyebrows caused by squinting), and crow’s feet (wrinkles on the side of the eyes).
Risks and Recovery
After a Dysport® injection, patients can expect to see improvement in three to seven days. Results generally last for about three to four months, with wrinkling gradually returning as the treatment wears off and muscles are able to contract again. With repeated treatments, muscles begin to weaken, so results can potentially last longer with every subsequent treatment.
Side effects from Dysport® are generally mild and temporary. Some patients may experience a headache, soreness or slight bruising, though these effects are uncommon. It is extremely unlikely to develop eyelid drooping from a Dysport® injection, but if this does occur, the effects are temporary.
After your Dysport® injection, it’s important not to press or rub the area. You should not lie down for three hours after treatment and it is best to avoid exercise for the remainder of the day. You may resume regular activities immediately after treatment.
