Your FUE Hair Transplant experience

Consultation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Colgrove will assess your hair loss pattern, discuss your goals, and evaluate your donor area’s suitability. He will explain the FUE technique in detail, answer any questions you may have, and create a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve your desired results. This consultation is an opportunity to understand what to expect from the procedure and to ensure you are a good candidate for FUE Hair Transplant.

Surgery

Your FUE procedure is performed in our AAAASF-accredited outpatient surgery center under local anesthesia. The surgical team will carefully extract individual hair follicles from the donor area, typically the back or sides of your scalp, using a specialized micro-punch tool. These follicles are then meticulously implanted into the areas experiencing hair loss. The entire procedure can take several hours, depending on the number of grafts required.

Recovery

Following your FUE Hair Transplant, you may experience mild swelling, redness, and tenderness in both the donor and recipient areas. These side effects are normal and typically subside within a few days. Dr. Colgrove will provide detailed aftercare instructions to promote healing and maximize your results. Most patients can return to non-strenuous activities within a couple of days, with full recovery taking about one to two weeks.

Results

New hair growth will become visible around three months post-surgery, with the full results typically visible within 9 to 12 months. As your hair continues to grow and thicken, you’ll enjoy a natural, fuller head of hair that complements your overall appearance.

FUE Hair Transplant FAQs

What is the difference between FUE and FUT hair transplants?

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) are both hair restoration techniques. The main difference lies in how the hair follicles are harvested. FUE involves extracting individual follicles directly from the scalp, resulting in minimal scarring. FUT, on the other hand, involves removing a strip of scalp from the donor area, which leaves a linear scar but can provide a higher number of grafts in a single session.

How long does the FUE procedure take?

The duration of the FUE procedure depends on the number of grafts needed to achieve your desired results. Most FUE procedures take between 4 to 8 hours. Dr. Colgrove will provide an estimated time frame during your consultation, allowing you to plan accordingly.

Will the transplanted hair look natural?

Yes, FUE Hair Transplants produce natural-looking results. The surgical team carefully selects and places each hair follicle to ensure it blends seamlessly with your existing hair.

Are the results of the FUE Hair Transplant permanent?

Yes, the results of an FUE Hair Transplant are permanent. The transplanted hair follicles are resistant to the hormone that causes hair loss, so once they are implanted, they should continue to grow naturally for a lifetime.
