Liposuction

LiposuctionLiposuction

Even with a healthy diet and regular exercise it can be difficult to get rid of excess deposits of fat. For those stubborn fatty areas, you may choose to undergo a liposuction procedure. Frequently performed by Atlanta liposuction surgeon Robert A. Colgrove, Jr., M.D., his patients achieve transforming body reshaping results.

Despite misconceptions, liposuction is an actual surgery that demands a highly skilled plastic surgeon with an artistic vision and the skills that come only from years of experience. While some individuals can achieve their ideal physiques through diet and exercise, many people cannot realize their visions due to persistent fatty tissue deposits.

Benefits

For some people, localized fat pockets on the stomach, hips, buttocks and/or arms do not respond to even the most stringent diet and exercise regimens. In such cases, liposuction can be used to remove the unwanted tissue. Liposuction patients can improve the appearance of the following body areas:

  • Abdomen, hips and flanks
  • Thighs, knees and buttocks
  • Upper arms
  • Neck, chin and cheeks

Liposuction Techniques

Dr. Colgrove uses some of the most advanced liposuction techniques to remove localized fatty tissue deposits and create beautiful body contours. He customizes each treatment according to the unique needs of his patients, an approach that allows him to consistently deliver remarkable liposuction results. Because each patient’s situation is different, only a personal consultation with Dr. Colgrove can help you determine which liposuction method is the best for you.

Dr. Colgrove utilizes liposuction to precisely break apart and emulsify fat deposits for easy, safe removal. Once Dr. Colgrove safely and accurately strips the fat, the result is a more beautifully sculpted appearance with less time off for recovery. No matter how advanced the tools, they require a surgeon with the vision to see your potential and the skill to take you there.

The length of the surgery is generally 2 to 3 hours, depending on the extent of the surgery, and is typically performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis.  Local anesthesia can be used for single isolated areas. Although liposuction is very safe and effective, it is a surgical procedure and can cause complications such as infection, bleeding and nerve damage. In addition, aesthetic complications such as skin irregularity or waviness can occur if too much fat has been removed. Fortunately, complications are uncommon and most patients are satisfied with their results.

Recovery

Recovery time is 1 to 2 weeks. Strenuous actives can be performed within 2-4 weeks after procedure. The results of this procedure are permanent when accompanied by an appropriate diet and exercise.
