Dermaplaning Skin Treatment
Dermaplaning, also known as blading or microplaning, is a safe and proven treatment to exfoliate and rejuvenate your skin. It involves skimming the dead and damaged skin cells and hair from the face to create a smooth and radiant look. Your plastic surgeon will use a high-precision exfoliate blade to perform this non-surgical procedure. In addition to skin renewal, dermaplaning can also help in diminishing the effect of acne related scarring and unsightly pockmarks. Vinings Surgery Center, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Colgrove, provides dermaplaning skin rejuvenation to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.
Dermaplaning Candidates
Dermaplaning procedure can work well on almost any skin type. The procedure does not require you to undergo general anesthesia, so your surgeon can safely performed it in their office. Women and men who are bothered by the appearance of the following skin conditions may be good candidates for this non-surgical treatment:
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Dull and patchy skin
- Sun damage
- Acne scarring
- Dry skin and coarse skin texture
How does Dermaplaning Work?
Your dermaplaning procedure will be performed using an exfoliating blade, which is similar to a normal razor used to remove body hair. The concept of dermaplaning is not very different from that of shaving unwanted hair in the legs. Your treatment expert will gently move a sterile blade across the treatment area at a 45 degree angle. They will carefully remove the dead cells, scar tissue, and debris from the top layers of your skin. Toxins in the environment and sun damage can cause your skin to look old, dull and uneven. Dermaplaning will resolve these problems without involving any cuts, incisions or plastic surgery. The procedure will not only remove the skin imperfections superficially, it will also promote the generation of new collagen fibers in the deeper skin layers for longer term skin enhancement.
Dermaplaning Procedure
Your surgeon will administer a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable through the in-office procedure. You may only feel a mild tingling sensation while the procedure is in progress. The electronic or manual dermaplaning tool will gently scrape the topmost skin layer to remove the dead skin cells and pave the way for the generation of fresh cells. The exfoliation procedure will only take about 30 minutes or less, depending on the size of the treatment area. Once the procedure is over, your treatment provider will apply a soothing substance, such as aloe, to calm your skin.
Results and Recovery
Dermaplaning treatment does not require any specific recovery or downtime. The treated skin may have mild redness for a day or two, which will resolve on its own. You will be able to notice some of the results immediately, but the final results will continue to develop over the next several days and weeks. Your skin will appear brighter, smoother, and more youthful. Make sure to protect your skin from sun exposure after the treatment for several weeks. Results with dermaplaning can be fairly long lasting, provided you protect your skin from sun and wind. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Robert Colgrove receives patients from Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and nearby areas for dermaplaning.
