Hyperhidrosis Treatment
Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that involves excessive sweating, which may cause discomfort and embarrassment to the patient. The traditional solutions for this condition include topical deodorants, which may cause allergy or irritation in the skin. Anyway, deodorants may control the odor, but not the profuse sweating action.
ThermiDry is now available as a proven and effective non-surgical treatment to eliminate the problem of excessive sweating in the underarms. Vinings Surgery Center, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Colgrove, provides ThermiDry treatment to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding communities.
What is ThermiDry?
ThermiDry device involves the use of radio frequency (RF) energy to help you get rid of excessive sweating in the armpits. The controlled heat generated through RF energy in the affected areas will remove the targeted sweat glands permanently. When just a few glands are deactivated with this treatment, it will significantly reduce the sweating process and keep your underarms drier.
Your body remains unaffected by the elimination of a select number of sweat glands through the ThermiDry process. That is because the body has a large number of sweat glands, and only a very small percentage of those glands is eliminated through ThermiDry.
Therefore, the body continues to regulate its temperature using the remaining sweat glands. In this process, the underarms, where troublesome sweat is concentrated if you are suffering from hyperhidrosis, will become substantially drier.
Candidacy
ThermiDry would be an appropriate treatment if you show one or more of the following signs:
- Excessive sweating is causing you significant discomfort or embarrassment
- You are forced to change your clothes several times a day
- You have no underlying health condition that could be causing your hyperhidrosis
- You are unable to achieve satisfactory results from the use of topical deodorants
How does ThermiDry Work?
Your treatment provider will administer local anesthesia in the affected site to keep you comfortable throughout the treatment. They will apply the ThermiDry device to deliver RF energy through a tiny probe (about the size of a needle), which will be inserted underneath your skin.
Apart from delivering the controlled amount of heat energy, the probe will also track the temperature of the treatment area to ensure no burning or damage to your inner skin and tissue occurs. Another gauge will be used to monitor the temperature on the outer skin surface.
This will enable your provider to deliver the precise amount of RF energy that meets your need to eliminate the excessive sweating without causing any collateral damage to the skin.
Treatment Experience and Recovery
The entire ThermiDry treatment can be completed in less than one hour. You might experience a mild warming sensation as the RF energy penetrates your skin, but most patients do not report any discomfort. No downtime is involved, and you can go back to your routine work after the treatment session.
In some cases, mild discomfort and swelling may occur around the treated area, which will resolve on its own within a few days. Your provider may prescribe some oral pain medications to keep you comfortable during this period.
