Laser therapy is a non-toxic, non-invasive therapy that uses laser energy to restore and regenerate skin cells. This medical spa procedure improves the outcomes for skin conditions treated, quickens the recovery of the affected tissue, and rejuvenates the skin.
Vinings Surgery Center, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Colgrove, provides laser skin rejuvenation treatments to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
IPL is sometimes called a Fotofacial, and it is used to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the neck, face, body, or hands. This technology can effectively treat pigmentation issues, broken capillaries, facial veins, rosacea, and acne. In general, a series of three treatments spaced between three to four weeks apart are undertaken to achieve optimal outcomes.
A treatment session takes between 30 to 60 minutes. The areas of underlying damage may become darker prior to lifting, and a majority of patients report little to no downtime. Mild redness and inflammation may develop in some patients but resolves rapidly. For maintenance, one touch up every six months is recommended.
Leg Vein Therapy
Laser therapy can effectively treat unwanted facial and leg veins as well as telangiectasias. It can readily resolve vascular lesions in one to three treatment sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart.
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal can effectively and efficiently offer long term hair removal to patients. A highly precise beam of light vaporizes the undesirable hair follicles to remove or greatly slow down the re-growth of the hair.
The duration of an individual treatment will depend on the site being treated, and usually, several sessions are required to capture a significant portion of hair follicles at various stages of growth. The treatment can cause a slight stinging sensation. However, the patient may return to work and resume their routine activities right after a treatment session.
Tattoo Removal
A Q-switched laser is the most commonly used laser for the removal of tattoos. The laser “fractures” the pigment into fragments that are tiny enough for the ink to be removed via the natural filtering system of the body. In general, six to eight treatments spaced six to eight weeks apart are recommended for desirable outcomes.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
The Erbium YAG laser makes use of a less invasive technique for the treatment of sun-damaged skin and superficial wrinkles. This laser treatment is safe and gentle and can be used on the face, neck, chest, and hands with negligible risk. In certain cases, the recovery may take place in only one week. Individuals with darker complexions may also find the Erbium YAG laser beneficial.
What is Non-Ablative Laser Rejuvenation?
In non-ablative skin rejuvenation, a laser is used to soften the appearance of skin lesions by creating heat in the skin without any damage to the uppermost skin layer. The heat generated by the laser promotes the production of collagen, which creates skin tightening as well as more youthful, healthier-looking skin.
Non-ablative lasers are typically fractionated. Therefore, they deliver heat into the skin through countless small, deep columns, known as microthermal treatment zones, with intervening normal untreated skin.
The fractional approach allows the skin to recover much faster than if the entire area received treatment. This approach reduces the recovery period and the number of complications that can potentially occur. In a majority of cases, the patient will require multiple sessions for desirable results.
