Enhance & reshape your breasts using your own fat

Breast fat grafting is a procedure that involves using your own body fat to enhance and reshape your breasts. Fat is harvested from areas with excess fat, such as the abdomen or thighs, through liposuction. This fat is then purified and carefully injected into the breasts to restore lost volume, improve shape, or enhance contour. Ideal for addressing post-pregnancy deflation, sagging, or age-related changes, breast fat grafting offers a natural alternative to implants. The procedure provides a subtle, natural-looking enhancement with minimal recovery time.

Breast fat grafting treats:

  • Volume loss due to aging
  • Post-pregnancy breast deflation
  • Sagging or drooping breasts
  • Uneven breast shape or asymmetry
  • Loss of breast fullness after weight loss

Benefits of breast fat grafting:

  • Uses your own natural fat, reducing the risk of allergic reactions
  • Provides a natural look and feel with no implants
  • Minimal scarring due to small incisions
  • Dual benefit of body contouring through liposuction
  • Less recovery time compared to traditional breast augmentation
  • Enhances breast volume and shape subtly and gradually
  • Improves skin texture and elasticity in the treated area
  • Customizable to achieve a personalized enhancement
  • Reduces visible signs of aging in the breast area

Your breast fat grafting experience

Consultation

Your journey with breast fat grafting begins with a consultation with Dr. Colgrove. During this meeting, you will discuss your aesthetic goals, medical history, and any concerns you may have. Dr. Colgrove will assess your body to determine the best areas for fat extraction and evaluate how the fat will be used to enhance your breasts. He will explain the procedure, including the techniques and expected outcomes, and answer any questions you may have.

Surgery

Dr. Colgrove will perform the fat grafting procedure under general anesthesia or local sedation, depending on your preference and the extent of the surgery. Fat will be harvested from areas like your abdomen or thighs through liposuction. The purified fat is then carefully injected into your breasts to achieve the desired volume and contour. The procedure typically lasts a few hours and is performed in our AAAASF-accredited outpatient surgery center.

Recovery

After your surgery, you can expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort in both the donor and recipient areas. These side effects are normal and should subside within a few weeks. You might need to take about one week off work and avoid strenuous activities for up to three weeks. Most of the swelling will decrease within the first few weeks, but the final results can take several months to fully materialize as the fat settles and integrates into the breast tissue.

Results

You will start to see improvements in breast volume and shape as the swelling diminishes. The full results are typically visible within 3 to 6 months. The outcome is natural-looking and can enhance your overall breast appearance, providing a subtle yet effective enhancement with long-lasting results. Dr. Colgrove will guide you through every step to ensure your satisfaction.

Breast fat grafting FAQs

What areas of the body are used for fat extraction?

Fat is typically harvested from areas with excess fat, such as the abdomen, thighs, or flanks. Dr. Colgrove will evaluate the most suitable donor sites based on your body type and aesthetic goals. This dual approach allows for body contouring while enhancing your breasts.

How long does the procedure take?

The breast fat grafting procedure usually lasts between 2 to 4 hours. This includes time for fat extraction through liposuction, processing, and injection into the breasts. The duration may vary depending on the amount of fat being transferred and individual patient factors.

Are there risks associated with breast fat grafting?

While breast fat grafting is generally safe, there are potential risks, including infection, bleeding, or fat necrosis (where some of the injected fat may not survive). Dr. Colgrove will discuss these risks with you during your consultation and take steps to minimize them.

How much fat will be absorbed after the procedure?

It’s normal for some of the transferred fat to be reabsorbed by your body. On average, about 30% to 50% of the injected fat may be reabsorbed. Dr. Colgrove will strategically inject a bit more fat than needed to account for this absorption and ensure satisfactory results.
