Achieve a firmer, more youthful breast contour

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that elevates and reshapes sagging breasts. As women experience changes due to pregnancy, aging, or gravity, their breasts may lose firmness and begin to droop. This procedure removes excess skin, repositions the nipple and areola, and tightens the surrounding skin to create a firmer, more youthful contour. At Vinings Surgery & Hair Restoration Center, Dr. Colgrove expertly performs this surgery to enhance breast shape and position, offering a rejuvenated appearance.

Breast lift treats:

  • Sagging or drooping breasts
  • Loss of breast firmness and volume
  • Changes in breast shape due to aging or gravity
  • Post-pregnancy breast changes

  • Loss of youthful breast contour
  • Breasts that have lost elasticity over time

Benefits of breast lift:

  • Improves breast symmetry and proportion
  • Enhances overall breast contour and firmness
  • Boosts self-confidence and body image
  • Can be combined with breast augmentation for increased volume

Your breast lift experience

Consultation

Your journey begins with a thorough consultation with Dr. Colgrove. During this initial meeting, Dr. Colgrove will evaluate your breast shape and discuss your goals. A computer simulation of the potential results will be demonstrated. He will determine the most suitable breast lift technique and whether additional procedures, such as breast augmentation, might be beneficial. You’ll receive detailed information about the procedure, expected outcomes, and pre-surgery preparations. Dr. Colgrove’s goal is to tailor the surgery to your unique needs.

Surgery

On the day of your surgery, you’ll arrive at our outpatient facility, where Dr. Colgrove will perform your breast lift under general anesthesia, ensuring you remain comfortable. The surgery lasts 1.5 to 3 hours. Dr. Colgrove will make incisions along the natural contours of your breasts to remove excess skin, reposition the nipples and areolas, and tighten the surrounding tissue. This elevates and reshapes your breasts, resulting in a firmer, more youthful appearance.

Recovery

After your breast lift, you’ll spend a few hours in our facility for observation before going home. Your breasts will be bandaged, and you may have surgical drains to manage excess fluids. Pain and swelling are common but manageable with medication. You might experience bruising, temporary discomfort, and some difficulty with breast sensation. Most patients can resume light activities within a few days, but it’s best to avoid strenuous activities for about three weeks.

Results

The initial results of your breast lift will be noticeable as swelling subsides and your breasts start to settle into their new shape. While you may see improvements within a few weeks, the final results typically become fully visible in about six months to a year. The outcome will be a firmer, youthful breast contour that can last for years, though future aging and gravity may gradually impact your results over time.

Breast lift FAQs

What is the difference between a breast lift and breast augmentation?

A breast lift (mastopexy) raises and reshapes sagging breasts to improve their firmness and position. Breast augmentation, on the other hand, involves implant placement to increase breast volume. Many patients opt for a combination of both procedures to address sagging and achieve fuller breasts.

How long does the surgery take?

The breast lift procedure typically takes between 1.5 to 3 hours. The duration depends on the extent of the surgery and any additional procedures performed.

What kind of anesthesia is used?

Breast lift surgery is generally performed under general anesthesia, ensuring you are completely asleep and pain-free during the procedure. In some cases, a more limited breast lift may be performed under local anesthesia with sedation.

Are there any risks associated with breast lift surgery?

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks involved, including infection, bleeding, and scarring. You may also experience temporary loss of nipple sensation or uneven nipple positioning. Dr. Colgrove will discuss these risks with you in detail during your consultation and provide guidance on how to minimize them.

How long is the recovery period?

Recovery from a breast lift varies by individual. Most patients can resume light activities within a few days but should avoid strenuous exercise for about four weeks. You’ll need to wear a support bra and follow Dr. Colgrove’s post-operative care instructions to ensure proper healing.

When will I see the final results?

Initial improvements will be visible as swelling decreases and your breasts begin to take their new shape. The full results are generally seen within six months to a year after surgery as your breasts settle into their final position.
