Chin Implants or Fillers to Strengthen the Jaw Line

What is a weak chin / jaw line and what can you do about it? The position of the chin and jaw makes a huge difference to how attractive a face appears. Persons who are unhappy with a weak chin and jawline can undergo procedures on the lower facial region to harmonize their facial proportions.

Altering the bone structure amay help to improve the symmetry between the upper, middle and lower parts of the face. Cosmetic surgeons use facial implants or non-surgical fillers to help you get the right facial balance.  Vinings Surgery Center, led by board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Colgrove, provides chin and jaw line enhancement surgery to patients in Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and surrounding locations.

Mentoplasty for Chin Reshaping

Mentoplasty is a type of surgery performed to give your chin or jaw a new shape. It relies on the use of silicone implants to make your chin more defined. If the chin has a strong outward projection, the surgeon can remove bone from the jaw to improve your appearance.   A weak or recessed chin is easy to correct using a chin implant. Implants provide support to the chin and bring it into symmetry with the rest of the face. They also help to make the jaw appear more angular and improve its definition, adding sharpness to the facial contours.

Are you a candidate for mentoplasty?

Persons with the following facial characteristics are a good fit for mentoplasty:

  • Recessed or weak chin
  • Ill defined neck and jawline
  • Lack of proportion in facial features
  • Jaws not in symmetry with other facial features
  • Problematic jaw structure due to injury or trauma or congenital defects

Surgical Procedures for Weak Chin and Jawline

Chin implant plastic surgery and jaw augmentation are the two major procedures that are performed to improve the appearance of the chin and jawline.   Chin implant surgery  This can be done in the doctor’s office with a local anesthetic. If it is combined with other plastic surgery of the face, the procedure is performed in an operating room using general anesthesia.   The cosmetic surgeon makes a small incision in the mouth or under the chin. The chin implant made of biocompatible silicone is inserted through this cut. The surgeon positions the implant carefully to sit on the lower border of the jawbone under the chin muscles. The incision is then stitched using dissolvable sutures.  Jaw Augmentation   In this procedure, the surgeon makes a tiny cut inside the mouth. Customized implants that have been made to specific measurements are inserted and positioned against your jawbone and kept in place. A similar action is performed on the other side. Finally, the surgeon closes the cut with dissolvable sutures.   If you have a weak chin and jaw line due to congenital defects or due to trauma, chin implant surgery is an easy way to achieve a slender and elegant jawline that improves your facial appearance. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Robert Colgrove receives patients from Atlanta, Marietta, Georgia, and nearby areas for chin and jaw line contouring procedures.
