Lips can lose their plumpness and definition due to aging, environmental exposure and other factors. Lip Augmentation with Implants 

Implants can offer permanent lip augmentation. A wide range of synthetic lip implants are available today. The cosmetic surgeon will suggest the ideal implant for the patient. Lip implants can make the lips appear shapelier and fuller. Lip implant surgical procedures take about an hour to complete.  The surgeon will commence the plastic surgery by placing small incisions on the lips. These incisions are usually placed at the mouth corners to keep them hidden. The surgeon uses these incisions to create a narrow tunnel to hold the implant. This tunnel should be created precisely to make sure that the implant placement is correct and appears natural. 

Lip Augmentation with Fat Transfer 

If implants are unsuitable for the patient, the surgeon may recommend fat transfer. This surgery entails using the patient’s own tissue from a donor area on the body to make the lips appear fuller.   Outcomes of this technique are natural and softer looking. Lip augmentation with fat transfer is also less invasive. The use of the body’s own tissue ensures that allergic reactions or rejections are a rare occurrence.  To commence this procedure, the surgeon will initially remove excess fat from a donor location. Donor sites include areas such as the thighs or abdomen. The surgeon uses the liposuction technique in these areas. This fat is subsequently injected into the lips via a blunt needle and a syringe. The injection process will only entail tiny prick marks which are around 0.2 cm in diameter. 

Dermal Filler Injections  

Juvederm Volbella XC is specially developed to enhance the appearance of lips and mitigate lines around the mouth. The fine, vertical lines around the lips, which are commonly called smoker’s lines, can be removed with Volbella. It also treats oral commissures, which are the points where the corners of the mouth turn down.   Volbella will improve natural lip definition and enhance lip contour by accentuating the outline of the lips. It also addresses marionette lines which appear from the corners of the mouth, down to the chin. Maintenance and cost of future injections is limited with Volbella due to its superior longevity. 

Laser Lip Enhancement 

This procedure entails using a series of laser pulses directly into the mucosa of the lips. This triggers collagen formation that offers a fuller appearance to the lips. The nature of this treatment is such that the natural lip shape remains intact.   However, they develop a fuller and plumper look. The treatment may entail one session per month. After that, the patient may get one treatment per three months to maintain the appearance and fullness of the lips.
